SIM720 Stornoway Airport (EGPO) - Scotland
£15.99 + Vat

It was first discovered by the RAF with sea planes landing in the local harbour.

EGPO Stornoway Airport lies 2.3 miles (3.7 km or 2 NM) east of the town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides. Association with the Royal Air Force goes back to 1928 when a flying boat landed in Stornoway harbour, long before there was landing ground for wheeled aircraft. Grass runways were completed in 1937 and the airport was taken under military control in 1941. During the period 1986 to 1993 the airport was used as a NATO Forward Operating Base for Air Defence aircraft protecting the fleet, being taken over by the military for 6 weeks a year. Now operated by HIA (Highlands and Islands Airports), the airport provides domestic passenger services (over 125,000 passengers a year) as well as hosting the HM Coastguard helicopter search and rescue and private aircraft flights. It is the gateway to the Western Isles of Scotland.

The SIM720 Stornoway Airport download has been created as a replica of the real airport. All the buildings within the airport boundary have been hand modelled and textured and placed with extreme accuracy, while the runways and taxiways are also exact matches to the real world surfaces. The Stornoway package also includes custom auto-gen buildings outside the boundary for further added realism and airport clutter objects and custom made static aircraft provide an authentic real world atmosphere.

The Inverness Airport download has been designed for high compatibility and includes photoreal blending with Default FTX, Orbx and Horizon.

Our thanks go to Highlands & Islands Airports Ltd (HIA) for their support in this project including providing us with access to the airport airside for photography.

Please note this is DX10 compatible only if using Steve's DX10 fixer v2.1 or newer.
Installs into FSX, FSX:SE, P3Dv1, P3Dv2, P3Dv3 and P3Dv4.

This is a really nice airport, it has a lot of detail and looks very realistic. I like the runway markings/paint that has a worn look, the aircraft parking area also have black spots from spilled oil and fuel. One thing that often annoy me with other addon makers is how you can clearly make out the border where the the airport scenery meets the default or addon scenery, at Stornoway I have a hard time finding that border. On the same note, the airport also looks very naturally placed. I find some addon airport looks like they have been "stamped" on top of the scenery, this doesn't :-)

Just like you can see in the published screenshot the airport has a terminal, tower, hangar and a few parking lots, all of which have appropriate vehicles placed around them. There's even a few people around. Hedges, fences, streetlights, aircraft steps, maintenance crew and so on are nice touches that add atmosphere and realism. There's even a lawnmower.

Overall a very nice product, I will definitely buy more airports from Sim720 in the future.
