Catalina Airport

Catalina Airport (KAVX) – California USA
£15.99 + Vat
Fall off this mountain top and the only way is down. And don’t forget to fuel up for the round trip.

KAVX Catalina Airport is situated on Santa Catalina Island and is known as the ‘Airport in the Sky’ due to its elevation at 1,602 ft (488 m). The airport is located 6 miles (10 km or 5 NM) northwest of Avalon, or to position it in relation to the mainland of the USA, it is off Long Beach, Los Angeles, California. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, Catalina Airport is assigned AVX by the FAA and CIB by the IATA. The airport originally opened as "Buffalo Springs Airport" in the late 1930s. Prior to this time the Island was accessible only to amphibious aircraft.

The runway was built by blasting away the tops of two mountains and using the 200,000 truckloads of rock to fill the gap between them. A scheduled passenger service was briefly provided by United Airlines in DC-3s but this was discontinued; it is however used for airfreight from the mainland, with supplies being delivered via a Douglas DC-3 aircraft daily. Don’t be fooled by the long-disused refuelling equipment which is located in the pavement in front of the terminal building, no fuel is actually available. It does however sell buffalo burgers.

The SIM720 airport download has been created to replicate the real world site, featuring high quality bespoke models, custom photoreal textures and hand placement of buildings. The package includes many additional ambient features as objects seen in the real airport have been modelled and positioned, allowing you to immerse yourself in a realistic flight simulation environment that greatly adds to the experience of pilots using the airport. In addition custom made static aircraft are included that give the airport an authentic working feel.

The Catalina Airport download has been designed to be highly compatible and it includes photoreal blending with Default, Orbx and MegaSceneryEarth. It’s also DX10 compatible.

Installs into FSX, FSX:SE, P3Dv1, P3Dv2, P3Dv3 and P3Dv4.

Stornoway airport

SIM720 Stornoway Airport (EGPO) - Scotland
£15.99 + Vat

It was first discovered by the RAF with sea planes landing in the local harbour.

EGPO Stornoway Airport lies 2.3 miles (3.7 km or 2 NM) east of the town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides. Association with the Royal Air Force goes back to 1928 when a flying boat landed in Stornoway harbour, long before there was landing ground for wheeled aircraft. Grass runways were completed in 1937 and the airport was taken under military control in 1941. During the period 1986 to 1993 the airport was used as a NATO Forward Operating Base for Air Defence aircraft protecting the fleet, being taken over by the military for 6 weeks a year. Now operated by HIA (Highlands and Islands Airports), the airport provides domestic passenger services (over 125,000 passengers a year) as well as hosting the HM Coastguard helicopter search and rescue and private aircraft flights. It is the gateway to the Western Isles of Scotland.

The SIM720 Stornoway Airport download has been created as a replica of the real airport. All the buildings within the airport boundary have been hand modelled and textured and placed with extreme accuracy, while the runways and taxiways are also exact matches to the real world surfaces. The Stornoway package also includes custom auto-gen buildings outside the boundary for further added realism and airport clutter objects and custom made static aircraft provide an authentic real world atmosphere.

The Inverness Airport download has been designed for high compatibility and includes photoreal blending with Default FTX, Orbx and Horizon.

Our thanks go to Highlands & Islands Airports Ltd (HIA) for their support in this project including providing us with access to the airport airside for photography.

Santa Barbara Airport

Santa Barbara Airport - California USA (KSBA)
£15.99 + Vat
Santa Barbara Airport (KSBA) for flights to Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Denver, Seattle, Portland or our sister airport Santa Catalina(KAVX).

This is a great airport - over 80 buildings modelled, Interior perspective on the buildings (believed to be a world first), animated people, and 2 millimetre / pixel tiled texture on the taxiways and runways. All of this has been achieved without affecting the frame rate performance.

Commercial airline flights began in 1932 on Pacific Seaboard Airlines. United Airlines then inaugurated flights from Santa Barbara/Goleta in 1936 and the Spanish-style terminal building was commissioned by United Airlines, using the same architects as for the Arlington Theatre.

The USA Marine Corps was operating here 1942 to 1946 with a peak of 4,000 personnel, training 24 squadrons with 101 accidents – hopefully they learnt from their mistakes. But can you name the John Wayne WWII film stationed at Goleta, the name for this airport until it was annexed to the city of Santa Barbara by a 7 miles (11 km) long, 300 feet (90 m) wide corridor, mostly under the Pacific Ocean.

Most popular flight destinations in recent history have been Los Angeles California, Phoenix Arizona, San Francisco California, Denver Colorado, Seattle Washington, and Portland Oregon. In 2013 the airport hosted flights by United, American, US Airways, Frontier and Alaska airlines.

Installs into FSX, FSX:SE, P3Dv1, P3Dv2, P3Dv3 and P3Dv4.

Augusta Airport

SIM720 Augusta Regional Airport (KAGS) - Georgia USA
£15.99 + Vat

The Masters Golf tournament is a bonus.

In 1941, the airport was first established as a flight training school to support the United States military build-up prior to its entry into World War II. In three years it trained over 5000 personnel.

Commercial airline flights began in 1950 when Bush Field, as it was by then named, was transferred to the City of Augusta. In 1955 the terminal was opened to sell fuel and provide service to visiting aircraft and it never looked back. To this day, the fuelling operation continues as a major source of revenue for the airport, keeping it self-sufficient and profitable. In 2000 the airport was renamed the Augusta Regional Airport and it now supports more than half a million passengers a year.

During the Masters Golf tournament, traffic through Augusta soars with airlines responding with more flights on larger equipment including Delta Air Lines Boeing 737s and 757s. Augusta Regional Airport is served by Delta Air Lines and US Airways with typically 15 flights a day to Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia.

The SIM720 Augusta Airport download has been created as a replica of the real world site. The package includes a wealth of custom created and placed objects and a high resolution ground polygon. In addition the precision placement of runways and taxiways and the custom night-lighting provide incredibly realistic take-off and landing experiences.

Flight dynamics are real: so much so that approval for being realistic is already secured from the manufacturers COMCO Ikarus and the flight dynamics are already in use for real flight training in an approved C42a simulator.

The Ikarus C42a is an innovative, modern, advanced ultralight aircraft that sets the standard for fun and affordable flying. It is a technically mature, highly capable, two-seat aircraft designed primarily for the light sports aviation market and has become the world's most popular training aircraft that makes adventurous flying exciting and rewarding. The handling and flight performance of this machine is superb, making this a really fun and rewarding aircraft to start your journey to becoming a pilot.

The Owner's Manual approved for flying in FSX/P3D explains everything in detail, allowing you to enter into a true to life experience within the world of the Ikarus C42. For example, if you like additional excitement in your life then imagine flying from your favourite airport on a sunny day and at normal cruising height and you experience a sudden loss of power; no problem. Well, depends on how good you are but just don't panic, keep flying the plane and follow the instructions in the manual and bring your Ikarus C42a back to the ground safely.

So don't delay, add this aircraft to your hanger. Admired by all for its stunning real to life imagery, enjoy the challenge of flying from A to B in VFR flight.
