Hey Ladies/Gents,

Was looking forward to making another Sim720 video -- this time of Inverness, but sadly it OOMs almost immediately.  Using default Aircraft, clear weather, REX 4, Orbx FTX Global.

So I fired up Process Explorer to see VAS usage.  Using default Carenado at Minnesota (St. Paul), I'm at 2.3.GB ... move to Inverness and it jumps to 3.9GB and OOMs a few seconds later.

Also tested at Stornoway and no problems with excessive VAS usage.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Rob.

Rob.

Rob,

That is a very interesting post. I conducted a quick test flight at EGPE Inverness yesterday (taxi from parking spot, take off, circuit, landing, and taxi back to parking spot). Shortly after I landed, I remember hearing the "ding" sound from FSUIPC that sounds when VAS usage is extremely high. Now, I have noticed this before on my PC after such a short flight, but only in extremely dense scenery areas (eg. London with Heathrow Xtreme and VFR London X active, max autogen and scenery detail levels, 100% AI etc). It certainly should not happen at Inverness, so I suspect that we may have a problem here. I am sure that the guys will check it out when they sober up :)

Did some more testing with Inverness ... if uncheck (off) ALL the options:

Static Aircraft (small) = off

Static Aircraft (large) = off

Static Cars = off

Clutter 1 = off

Clutter 2 = off

Static people = off

Grass/Trees = Summer/Spring/Autumn/Winter Lvl1 and Lvl2

Product Compatible with = Orbx FTX Scotland

I can avoid OOM, barely ... runs at 3.6GB - 3.7GB VAS.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

In contrast, Stornoway I have all the options checked (on):

Static Aircraft = on

Static Cars = on

Clutter = on

Static People = on

Grass/Trees = Summer/Spring/Autumn/Winter Lvl1 and Lvl2

Product Compatible with = Orbx FTX Scotland

I'm at 3.4GB VAS.

Hi

Could you try disabling the following to files to see if it helps "PLC_EGPE_PAPI.bgl" and "S720_EGPE_PAPI.BGL" found in "{fsx/p3d}\SIM720\Airports\SIM720_EGPE\Scenery\"

Hi Paul,

Disabled those two files, VAS is unchanged 3.69 GB.

My situation:

1.  Start at default P3DV2 Minnesota St-Paul airport

2.  Default aircraft is set to Carenado A36 (this is a native P3DV2 aircraft, not add-on) - at about 2.5 GB VAS at this point

3.  Bring up menu and Go to Airport - select Inverness

4.  Airport loads, do a full circle 360 degree interior (VC) round and VAS is at 3.69GB

Cheers, Rob.

EDIT: Whenever I move my location to Inverness and exit P3DV2 I will get a Fatal Crash:

Hi Rob,

Can you disable SIM720 Inverness and loadup at Inverness and tell me what the VAS reading is please. I'm trying to work out what is causing it but i can't get past 3.4GB VAS here.

Hi Paul,

I disabled Sim720 Inverness and the common LIB for it and I'm at 3.1-3.2GB VAS ... this is in VC after doing a FULL 360 view rotation using the default P3DV2 Carenado A36 ... season is winter, time is 1 hour before dusk.

If I enable Sim720 Inverness and the common LIB for it I'm at 3.7-3.8GB VAS with all the optional scenery items turned OFF ... if I turn them on, I will OOM very quickly, with them all turned off I can at least taxi, takeoff, circle and land (but it's very close 3.8-3.9 VAS).

On the positive note, those new AGN files did resolve the G3D.DLL crash.  So you're making progress.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for that, i have done a fresh install again today and get a completely different view and results.

Can you see if this pictures matches what you see in global without sim720 as before i had a lot less houses

global.jpg

I now get 3.4GB VAS after doing a complete 360 and that is without REX or SIM720 EGPE!

Update

If i set both Autogen vegetation density and Autogen building density to very dense instead of extremely dense i don't get above 3.5GB VAS with everything turned on

Hey Paul,

You can see my current P3DV2 settings here: http://www.robainsco...Settings_2.html

You can also see what I currently have installed in P3DV2 here: http://www.robainsco..._3rd_Party.html

My 3.7-3.8GB VAS usage at Sim720 Inverness (no optional scenery enabled) is without any weather/clouds - clear skies (can't turn any weather on as it will OOM).  It is key to make sure you're in VC and do a full 360 view rotation (this forces loading of scenery).  I think what has me puzzled is why would Inverness (optional scenery all off) consume 400MB more VAS than Stornoway (optional scenery all on)?  They're both close to water and of very similar graphical complexity/detail.

Appreciate you looking into this.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob,

Do you use Scotflight and/or the (freeware) FSX Power Project?

Hey Christopher

No, I don't know what Scotflight is nor what FSX Power Project is?

Cheers, Rob.

Ive just started FSX up at Inverness with the default trike. in VC (full rotation) I'm getting 2881824 K.
With Alabeo PA38 it's 3069836 K.
With NGX it's 3660808 K.
With Q400 it's 3624292K.
Only running with Inverness, GenX running. I'll check those numbers against P3D as well later. Maybe it's something to do with either P3D or OrbX?
Cheers k

In P3DV2 - Vegetation = Normal seems to have cured all of my OOM/VAS issues.  Waiting for the soon-to-be released patch and will revisit Inverness once available and report back.

Cheers, Rob.

Hi sorry to spoil the party, but I'm getting CTD flying EGPE to EGPO with P3D v2. I have no CTD when flying the route with default P3D2 Carenado A36 (with 2x Mindstar GNS430 fitted) and AS2012 weather. Adding FTX Global textures, flying same route gives no CTD. Adding EGPO, again no CTD. Adding EGPE will result in CTD before reaching ULLAP. I have scenery settings at Normal, autogen at normal too. Strangely I can run FSX with GENX textures and have no problems. I can also fly locally in EGPE in P3D2 with no CTD. It seems to be a combination of all the extras that is causing the CTD. I also get no OOM warning chirp before CTD, it just crashes with no warning. The Mindstar units can cause CTD on exiting the sim, but they are rock steady in flight. Possibly a combination of a lot of third party things going on, according to other users I believe P3D2 has some OOM issues too, so I have no idea whats wrong.

NVidia GTX680 with 4MB video RAM. Tons of PC RAM available.

Regards

Gary - p.s. love the Sim720 portfolio!!!

Yes the v2.1 patch seems to of made OOMs worst and yes its a combination of addon's that does it.

We have made some lower quality ground textures to try and make it better and they can be found here http://forum.sim720....7-64/#entry1439
