I notice that you have your framerate locked at 30fps. I normally have mine locked at 25fps, but testing with SIM720 KSBA showed a massive improvement in framerates when I reset this to Unlimited. Can you check that, and report back?

How strange ---- with fps set at "unlimited" I'm now getting 21fps with ALL boxes ticked & autogen at "extremely dense"

The usual rule in fsx is to limit your fps to say 25/30 but this seems NOT to be the case with KSBA

All those having low fps should absolutely try setting to "unlimited", even setting to "99" makes no difference must be "unlimited"

Thanks for the tip

That's great news, Bruce. By the way, they must have used the entire catalogue of paint colours for that plane :)

Hi Paul,

I'll test with the A36 and let you know, typically the A36 does seem to provide the best frame rates overall.

I'll also disable Vector and see ... but FYI, Vector 1.15 was enabled when I tested earlier with Sim720 KSBA disabled and fps were 44-45.

I've also tried deleting the shaders, but that didn't make any difference.

Flickering I've seen is only with buildings ... those buildings were on the Hollister Ave side ... around Cass Pl.

I know it's a pain Paul, but could you share your 5 screens of P3D settings ... that might help me do apples to apples compare.  Also, time of day and weather are very important with P3D.

@Bruce, yes Unlimited will typically yield higher frame rates but it will also tend to do wild fluctuations in frame rates and in some cases may make the hi-res terrain loading not able to keep up.

Cheers, Rob.

I wasn't expecting low end framerates to be significantly different between capped and Unlimited modes. For example, if the framerate is 20 when I have it set to Unlimited, then I would expect it to be 20 when the framerate is capped at (say) 25 or 30. Surely the point of "capped" mode is to prevent the user's PC wasting power on ridiculously high framerates when it could be put to better use rendering more complex visual scenes? If it is going to significantly reduce the framerates even below the "capped" limit, then that is affecting the user experience in a negative way, not a positive one.

@bruce so you get zero change in fps what so ever?

Might've gone up a frame or two, but still too much like a slideshow to be flyable.

Just wanted to report back on some more testing I did at KSBA.

Display/nVidia Settings here: http://www.robainsco...Settings_2.html

KSBA - Gate 37

Aircraft = LM's/Carenado A36

Weather = Clear

Date/Time = 5/19/2014 19:09:00

fb2f37abd2049e9f012d919b6c0102d3.jpg

EDIT: to be noted, view direction has a significant impact on reported fps ... in this test I kept the view direction identical.  But to demonstrate how testing can be skewed, if I change views to look at the runway rather than buildings/gates I'll see almost 2X improvement in fps ... in example above item #4 Orbx airport source, I will see 44-45 fps when facing the runway vs. facing the building/gates where it's 26 fps.

PC specification:

Intel i7 3960X @ 4.6Ghz

32GB RAM @ 2133Mhz

Titan 6GB (PCI-e 3.0 x 16)

3TB SSDs (SATA6)

Did some testing and "I think" I've narrowed down the problem at KSBA ... it appears to be related to the AI Dash 8 (American Pacific - not Majestics) aircraft model.  Since it's not a "static" aircraft it will depart (eventually) from it's gate and when it does my performance will go from 26 to 40 fps.

I increased the sim rate to 32x and waited for the Dash 8 (American Pacific) to depart, once that happened I returned the sim rate back to "Normal" and noticed my fps are now at 40 ... view was not changed at all during this process (as I didn't want to skew results).

So I guess the question now is, who's Dash 8 AI aircraft model is that?  It's NOT Majestic's.  Is this a model provided by Sim720 or is it from Orbx or LM?

Cheers, Rob.

Nice find, we don't supply any ai aircraft. The only aircraft we supply are the static models.
Will look at the flickers in your video tomorrow.

I'm not running any AI Traffic products, just whatever comes with P3DV2.2.  Any hints on where I should look for this AI model ... SimObjects\Airplanes\DH_Dash8_100 ?

Yeah that was the location, move the entire folder to another drive, loaded up saved flight and AI Dash8 was gone, however the frame rates were back to 26 ... so false alarm, sorry ... it's not the AI Dash 8.   :(

I'll keep digging and trying out stuff ... but whatever is in the direction of my view in the video I posted that shows the AI Dash 8 seems to be the consumer of fps.

When you get a chance can you turn all AI off and see if the fps improves as the dash 8 might of been else where in the airport, in the mean time i will keep looking.

I just wanted to bring this thread back as performance is still poor and runway lights are horrible at night. What's the status on these issues?  Runway lights seem to work fine at other airports, so what's the issue with this one?

Hi Todd,

We are currently testing a patch for all our airports to replace the runway lights with default lights due to the lighting issue in P3Dv2 which affects all our airports. Should be released by the weekend.

Paul
