There is a big discussion about this over at AVSIM (185 posts and counting). One of the members suspects that he may know who has purchased the license, and apparently there is going to be an announcement at E3. If it's true (and I suspect that it is), then I am betting on completely new source code and 64bit, but using the "Flight Simulator" name.

Microsoft E3 live conference stream starts at 17:30 GMT - however is this something that Microsoft themselves would really announce; wouldn't it be more likely that once all the legalities have been dealt with then the new owner would announce it themselves?

It looks like Microsoft were more interested in promoting another wave of mindless shooters for their new XBox One console. Where has all the innovation gone these days? Where are games like Terminator : Future Shock, UnReal, Half Life, and Deus Ex? They were superb examples of games that had that "X Factor" that made them incredibly atmospheric to play. Now all they seem to be bothered about is how many mindless morons they can get on screen at the same time, and how many bullets can be fired in quick succession. Unbelievably boring when you have to do it ad nauseam :(
