Hi,

I purchased EGEO from Steam this weekend (in the sale wink.png ) and have had a curious "bug".  Note the quotes, because I'm not yet 100% certain there isn't something else broken that's causing a conflict.

Symptoms :

When loading a flight, it would spend a _long_ time stuck at 83% Creating World Wide Weather (FSX goes to Not Responding) for several minutes.  This was at any airport, not just EGEO.

This is a reasonably powerful setup (i7 3930k @ 4.2Ghz, FSX on an SSD, 64GB RAM) and I had never seen anything similar before.  I am running UTX,GEX, REX Essentials+OD and, if it matters, Steve's DX10 Fixer.

I did some troubleshooting with Process Monitor from MS, and narrowed it down to the SIM720 Libs as it seemed to be looping inifintely (or a damn long time smile.png ).  Deactivating the SIM720 Libs from scenery library resolved the issue completely but, of course EGEO didn't have all the objects.  I downloaded the latest SIM720 patch libraries, removed the Steam SIM720 libs and used them which seemed to solve the issue.

The control panel doesn't seem to work anymore, however, but I'm not sure that's a huge issue because the refresh button on the control panel (downloaded from the Steam Tools) pointed at the wrong lib location (at the root of the FSX folder, not in FSX\DLC\352181 which is where Steam installs them.

Any thoughts?

Thanks anyway for a really nice airport!

Philip

Hi,

Mixing our SIM720 LIBS and the steam DLC version will cause the control panel not to work due to the way Steam/Dovetail organises the files for DLC.

We also don't have anything that affects the weather so that is a weird place to get stuck.

By the sounds of it you may of had a bad download on steam, best to contact Dovetail direct dtgflightsupport@dovetailgames.com or via the steam forums as we have no control on the steam side.

Edit: If you install the SIM720 configuration tool from the tools sections on steam it should install the control panel and find the correct folder.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply - I'll contact them, but I don't think it's a bad download.  I installed the control panel from the Steam Tools, and it most definitely didn't pick up the right location (at least the error message when hitting "Refresh" didn't - at this point I was trying to troubleshoot the Library issue, so didn't spend much time checking if the control panel did actually work).

I was curious about the reason it got stuck at the weather too - hence cracking open Process Monitor.   It's definitely there, though, and it's definitely fixable by disabling the SIM720 Lib and definitely reproducable (on my machine anyway...) by reactivating the SIM720 Lib in scenery.  It doesn't appear with your patched libs, though (subjectively) it does spend a second or so longer at this spot than without.  I haven't trailed though the full process monitor logs for each scenario, however.

If I get anything back from Dovetail, I'll let you know on this post.

Thanks,

Philip

Hi,

Ignore the "Refresh" button, i will look at why that errors but that only restores the autogen files if they get overwritten. Does the control panel show any check boxes at all?

Yes - it did (with the standard Steam libs).  I might try and fix it myself with the config XML files if that's possible, if not I'll just wait on feedback from Dovetail on the Steam version of those libs.

I remember a loading problem that I had once where the process seemed to stop for ages in the autogen section (between 70-80%). I think it was because there were some files missing, and it was spending ages trying to locate them. Maybe something like that is happening here, only with the weather files?

EDIT: This had nothing to do with the SIM720 airports or Libraries.

I have requested a Steam refund.  To be honest, I'd happily purchase the airport directly (and will probably be doing so for other DLC in the future).  Do you do any package deals?  You seem to have a few nice airports in the British Isles I'd be interested in...

And it's maybe no bad thing that the Steam version bugged, or I'd probably never have visited this forum, and so I'd probably never have really looked at your stuff, nor the good experience your users have when they have issues.

We have sales several times a year so keep an eye on the announcement forum for the next sale.

I also had the problem with the Steam version of Oban, in which the loading of my flight would stop at 6%. Replacing the SIM720 libs that came with the DLC with the one that I downloaded here, fixed the problem. Dovetail really seems to have an issue there.

Another problem I had was of overlapping objects, described in this thread: http://forum.sim720....an-error-p3dv2/

The fix in that thread helped me as well.

Thanks!

Steam actually refused my refund request because they had me on record as playing over 6 hours of the DLC.  The fact I was only able to do this by patching with the vendor libs didn't really seem to matter to them.  Anyway, once bitten, twice shy, I've since purchased the content directly from SIM720 (in the sale, and along with some other stuff too :) ) and removed the DLC directly from Steam.  I'll not be buying more DLC directly from them as their support is pathetic.  It's cost me a few quid, but to be honest, I've got a fully working set and a control panel that functions - a configuration I never managed with the dovetail version.  Dovetail have just lost a customer.  They don't appear to care.
